This beautiful old haveli has won an award for the best Homestay in Mewar- and not without reason. Impeccably run by Mrs. Hemant Kumari, this is a heritage Homestay which has been in the family since it was built around 100 years ago by an ancestor who was head of the nearby village of Pahuna.
The exceptional thing about this homestay is the individual decoration of each room. Originally designed as a family home before it became a Homestay, the rooms are beautifully furnished and have several paintings, both traditional and those painted by Hemant herself. Each of the marble floored guests' rooms have a specific Hindi name and a different color scheme; most also have decorative alcoves typical to havelis, and window seats. The house was built to ancient "vastu" principles, so ensures good luck and a good night's sleep!
Hemant is an excellent hostess and loves offering her house to guests. The family used to live in the plantation areas of Assam and Munnar and she is used to entertaining many guests, offering them excellent food and a warm welcome. Hemant is an incredibly vibrant character who has innumerable hobbies: she is a prize winning gardener and enjoys painting and even making stained glass lamps. She and her husband live in the house, visited from time to time by their three children and young granddaughter; they have one dog, called Silky. Here you can find out everything you need to know about how to spend your time in Udaipur. Guests are encouraged to feel completely at home, they can relax in the garden, sit in the elegant conservatory and chat with Hemant whenever they aren't immersed in sightseeing. This is a remarkably elegant and delightful place from which to experience one of India's most beautiful cities.
