70 acre tea estate with cosy cottages

This Homestay is a stunning property spread in over 70 acres and is more than 150 years old. It was one of the first plantations to be planted by an Indian and every inch of it has a riveting story to tell.

The estate consists of charming and well done cottages cloaked by unblemished greenery. Anecdotes about Mr. Bhandari's mother, who is is an icon of the region, are instantly impressive. She was Darang's first female panch and plantation owner. Mrs. Neeru Bhandari is a cultured lady who takes pride in her home. While she's fond of entertaining, cooking and gardening Mr. Bhandari is a talented amateur photographer. They're both naturally gracious hosts, patrons of the arts and avid travellers. Today, they both focus on their life at the tea estate. Selling produce from the estate for profit, the five year old homestay was their way of meeting new and interesting people.

The Main House has 1 bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a private dining area. The Middle Cottage offers 2 bedrooms with a big bathroom and little veranda for guests to enjoy. The Upper Cottage is given out only when big groups are expected. All the 3 cottages have been decorated with artifacts collected over generations and offer splendid views of the snow-clad Himalayas. The sprawling estate is filled with flowering plants, tea plantations, fruit-laden trees and its natural beauty attracts many exotic birds as well as wild animals. Since it started five years ago, the homestay has entertained renowned bird watchers and many travel enthusiasts. Organic tea, fruits, vegetables are grown on the property and used in the home's kitchen. Fresh milk from their cow is used for personal consumption and it's used to make what is possibly the world's most delicious cottage cheese. At the property, guests can enjoy walks across to the estate, down to the khud and the nearby villages. Treks to the mountains across are undertaken by the adventurous guests. The Estate is just 45 minutes drive from Mcleodganj.

Located near Dharamshala is an ancient temple called Bhagsunath. The Bhandaris look forward to having like minded guests who are cultured, and evolved travelers. By Road: Direct Volvos run daily from Delhi and stop right next to the homestay. Driving down is also a popular option. By Air: The nearest airport is the Gaggar airport, which is about 24kms away. From there a taxi can be hired to reach the estate or pick-up can be arranged by the homestay. By Rail: Pathankot, which is about 100kms from Darang is the nearest broadgauge railway terminal. From there one can hop on a narrow guage train or arrive by taxi.
