Noel, the host of this homestay is a young guy who has lived here his entire life. His family is a treasure chest of knowledge about the region. They know exactly what a visitor should see, what is overrated and should be avoided. At one time, Gethia belonged to Noel's family but slowly they sold parts of it and retained only what was suitable for their small family. As a government employee, Noel's father was integral in creating iconic buildings of the region. And now he does this for private individuals.
The homestay is wonderfully sunlit and has seven enormous rooms all with en-suite baths and dedicated dressing areas. All the rooms and the common areas are huge yet, very cosy at the same time. Deep, relaxing colours add to the warm ambiance of the homestay. The decor is eclectic. The wall paintings range from French portraits to religious scenery and kitsch. Two rooms on top offer stunning views with near-French windows. The thick forest cover ensures a lower temperature. And a crackling bonfire declares that it's time to wrap up the day, after some coffee, chai and interesting conversations.
Tigers are frequently spotted basking in the sun on and off the property. A day trip to Nainital is easy to undertake from Gethia. The peace, wildlife and greenery give Gethia a significant edge over other towns and villages near Nainital.
