Ranikhet is town dominated by the cantonment. Its name means 'queen's meadow' It was developed as a retreat during the British Raj to serve as an escape for them from the sultry plains of North India.
The town situated in Almora, Uttarakhand. The entire town has 2 main ridges - Ranikhet and Chaubattia. The Ranikhet ridge is almost 6,000 ft above the sea level and the latter ridge is almost 7,000 ft above the sea level. Ranikhet is almost 279 kilometers away from Delhi.
Ranikhet is widely known for it's high yield orchards and thus the regional cuisine is dominated by fresh fruits, vegetables and dairy products. Produce of Kumaon have a much richer and juicier taste. ATTRATION Valleys covered with Pine, Oak and Deodar trees harbour wildlife like leopards, mountain goats and more. View of the snow-clad Himalayan range are a breathtaking from Ranikhet. The revered Ghanti Mandir or Jhoola Devi temple is simply fascinating.
