Palampur was originally part of a local Sikh Kingdom. Much like the rest of India, it later came under the British. The hill station derives its name from the world 'Pulum' which means 'abundant water'.

Palampur is located in Himachal Pradesh. It is 30 kms from Dharamshala.

The regional cuisine is heavy on fresh fruits and dairy. Darang is nearby and tea estates of the region are known to produce exceptional tea. Spillover of Tibetan influence from Dharamshala and Mcleodganj can be seen in the food as well.

The local language is Hindi.

The top attractions of the small region are the snow clad mountains. To enjoy the view one can go to the Neugal Cafe. Kangra's oldest Shiva temple called Baijnath is near Palampur. The most important day tours are Darang, Dharamshala and Mcleodganj. Read more
